In episode 100 of Coffee with the Sarlos Karen and Kelly discuss the importance of setting your intention to be a good active listener during conversations- especially in conversations with people you assume you know well.
The common miscommunication traps we fall into when a relationship has existed for a significant period of time can often negatively affect the way we verbally and non-verbally engage with these individuals. We begin to make assumptions about what will be said, what they mean, how they will interpret the things we say and respond to us.
One recent encounter between Karen and her youngest brother, Darin, illustrates the kind of “reset” or “refresh” button that you can create when you set your intention to listen differently and ask better questions.
What kind of trap do you find yourself in when you are listening? Who in your life do you feel you need to hit the “refresh” button with when it comes to communication? Are these tools you feel inclined or excited to implement?
