I know exactly how you feel

You may think you do….and you may be wrong.  But how would you know if you start talking about your experience thereby shutting them down?

Are you making assumptions?  Are you making this about you instead of listening to someone else’s experience?  Are you trying to “join” or feel connected to this person by making this statement?

Take a breath.  Slow down.  Listen more fully.  This isn’t about you.  If you just listen you may learn something about them and their own experience.  You may even learn something new that may help you.  You may also notice your anxiety lessen and eventually as you listen more fully, disappear.  Now isn’t that worth slowing down and being a better listener?
